Here are some blogs that I have been writing for the R.M.P. companies during the Games. It's been crazy here inbetween Vancouver and Whistler. Been riding the pipe at Cypress as well and forerunning since I missed the Canadian Olympic Halfpipe team. Making the best of it for sure.
here it goes: I'm starting with day 1.
Feb.13th,
Opening ceremony, and day 2 of The Olympic Games.
The moment has come! After 7 years of planning, building and 106 days of torch relaying across the country, finally, we celebrate the Opening Ceremony at BC Place last night. The Ceremony was a tribute to the beauty of Canada, its native cultures and of course, all the World Class athletes. This time, the athletes came in early so they can enjoy the show as well and be inspired by the performers and speeches such as the very moving words of John Furlong. To finished things off, Gretzky takes off with the Flame, riding the back of a pick-up….. doesn’t get more Canadian then that!
I did have a chance to catch-up with Mercedes late last night. The Canadian half-pipe team moved into the athlete village in downtown Vancouver on the 10th, in all new spacious apartments with a killer view. Mercedes says it sounds really echo with only her teammate, Sarah Conrad, and the bare minimum to furnish the rooms. After the Games, these high priced apartments will be put on the market.
Mercedes has loved every minute of it since she got here. She did mention that she preferred the uniforms from the Opening Ceremony in the 2006. But her favorite stylish countries were by far Slovenia, looking good in their Green ensemble and Great Britain always dressed to impress.
Because of difficult snow conditions, the first 2 days of practice for the pipe event has been cancelled up on Cypress. So today is another day off for our favorite pipe riders Brad Martin and Mercedes Nicoll. Tomorrow is where it all begins. Men’s pipe event is on the 16th and women’s on the 17th.
Let’s just hope the weather is on our side.
More news to come.
