Prince George?
Why not? There’s only one way to really find out about the Great Central North and it’s to go and see for ourselves. So e decided to do a Snowboard Canada Mag trip up there. We left Whistler early Monday morning on an 8 hour driving mission just straight north. I hopped in Mercedes Nicoll’s car:Hi-Ho, with Helen Schettini and we caravanned with the boys: Justin VDP, Geoff Andruik and Nate Laverty following us.
We met our best host ever Aidan at Ruins board shop before driving for another hour heading east this time to Bear Paw Heli skiing operation. After driving in the middle of nowhere on to a dirt road we saw a beautiful log house lit with white lights and candles. The owner Kevin and his wife Amber welcomed us with warm hugs, wine and pie by the fireplace before sending us to bed finally.
We woke-up to a breakfast of champions from chef Amber and we were ready to hop into the heli for a powder day that felt more like mid-February goodness then early April. We hit up some little cliffs and pillow lines before hellying back to the lodge late in the day.
With over 1.2 million acres of the Bear Paw Heli terrain to cover in the McGregor range this place was seriously huge.
We left today after playing with some taxidermy animals in a trailer where the boys were staying near by. We still have to keep in real in PG.
Now a quick lunch at Nancy O’s downtown and stocking up to go spend 2 days in Powder King.
We didn’t know what to expect out of this place, but certainly not what we’ve been living the past couple of days.
To be continued when we get cell service and internet again.
